Become a Peer Grief Support Facilitator

Our group facilitators will be responsible for leading children and teens in a pre-selected topic of conversation and/or activity that encourages discussion and expression of their loss and subsequent grief.

Prospective
volunteers can
expect the following:

1 full weekend of training on facilitating the groups, childhood bereavement, and group etiquette by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Counselor.

A check in the amount of $22.99 will be collected on the first morning of training to cover the fee of the background check. DBGC will cover the cost of the background checks.

Our groups will be held on a weekly basis for 1 hour and 30 minutes for group participants. Volunteer facilitators are expected to arrive a minimum of 15-mins prior to group start to receive their group assignment and topic/activity. There will also be a 30-45 min post-group meeting between the facilitators and director to discuss any questions, concerns, or positive moments that occurred during their group.

Where & When

Our weekly peer grief support groups will be divided between Tuesday and Thursday evenings due to the size of the space, which means our volunteer facilitators will also be divided between these days. We will provide as much notice as possible to the volunteers on which group evening we've assigned them to.

The group sessions will be from 6:30PM to 8:00PM with the minimum 15 min buffer prior to start to receive your assignment info, and the 30-45 min post-group debrief. Location address will be given only to those who've completed the process and are officially one of our volunteers.

What a Group Facilitator Does

As a group facilitator, you will have a direct impact on a young person attempting to understand and navigate one of the most difficult situations of their lives, and helping to ensure it doesn’t negatively impact their futures.

Group Facilitators do this by leading their assigned group in a pre-selected topic of conversation and/or activity that encourages discussion and expression of their loss and the subsequent grief.
